NDR TV WORKSHOP NO.57
GULDA -WHEELER - SURMAN - CAVALLI - PHILLIPS - WEISS
"WHEEL IN THE RIGHT
MACHINE"

| Pierre Cavalli (source: web) |
Onxidlib sent me this one a good while ago. It was in the waiting list (with more goodies to come soon or later) but since fellow blogger El Porco Rojo just posted an album by Pierre Cavalli and since there aren't that many opportunities to hear this gifted and underrated guitarist in a straight jazz setting, I thought it was time to post it.
Check the names, need I say more ... a dream band?

Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThe TV-Version was rebroadcast recently on (German) BR-alpha;
ReplyDeletethey said it was the 54th NDR Jazzworkshop.
I've missed it again. I get BR-Alpha on Astra but i always forget to check the programmes.
DeleteHi Unknown- BR-Alpha is wrong.
DeleteThey do not care much about correct informations concerning the NDR Jazzworkshops.
This was the 54th NDR TV (Jazz) Workshop.
The 54th NDR Jazzworkshop has the following title/line-up:
THE LIFE AND DEATH OF CHARLIE PARKER
Sonny Grey (tp) Don Rendell (fl,ss,ts,cl) Dominique Chanson (fl,ss,as) Tony Scott (cl,bs,ts) Pierre Cavalli (g) Mal Waldron (p) Niels Henning-Ørsted Pederson (b) Alex Riel (dr)
rec. November 27 - December 1, 1967 Hamburg, Germany.
NDR had a separate counting for the broadcasts and for the TV workshop.
Later they dropped the separate counting of the TV Workshops.
Cheers!
completely feeling this session - a real treat.
